In the last few weeks I am being logged out sometimes, and it's getting more frequent. It's annoying, because I notice it when I have finished a puzzle, and then it isn't registered.
Does it have something to do with using VPN? I can't open puzzles with my VPN on frequently, and have to put it on pause. Why would it be a problem to use VPN on this site?

Hi TrashPanda,
I'm sorry to hear that. The login/logout code hasn't changed since I wrote it in 2005, so it's nothing I've altered. :) The site uses a cookie to remember your logged-in state, so your browser must be losing your cookie or refusing to serve it. Have you installed something that blocks cookies, or deletes them regularly?
Separately, there's no reason at all why a VPN itself would have any effect. It's more likely that your VPN software is blocking the site cookies from being shared, or it isn't configured correctly and it incorrectly decides that the cookie is being accessed cross-site (which is forbidden in many cases now).
Another thing to try is to access the site using https://www.puzzlemix.com/ instead of https://puzzlemix.com/ (or the opposite, if you usually use the former), in case something is being fussy when it shouldn't.
Finally, I suggest refreshing the puzzle menu before opening it, just to check you have the cookie working before you start the puzzle.
I hope this helps!

Thanks for your extensive answer. Maybe it's my browser that causes the logouts. I don't remove the cookies for this site, I have an add-on to remove cookies from individual sites, and I never use it on this site.
I've disabled VPN for this site for now, maybe it also helps with the logouts. Otherwise I will try using https://puzzlemix.com/.

Given what you've said, it could well be due to the difference between puzzlemix.com and www.puzzlemix.com - the cookie will specify the subdomain it is stored at, which if it doesn't match the domain you are viewing may lead to it being deleted by your software you mention. I hope this has fixed it!
