I finished it, checked it -correct-, closed window.
When I returned to the site it showed my status as 'saved' and there was no time recorded.
It had been saved in its completed form.
I've tried to 'reset' and confirmed this is what I want to do but nothing happens!!!!!

I can see you have a blank saved position now, so it looks like you have subsequently reset the puzzle and saved it? It sounds like the initial problem was that you temporarily didn't have internet access, so when you finished the puzzle it failed to update the server to mark your completion. It should tell you this in the completion window, but if it didn't then that's a bug.

Tried a different machine. Same result.
Then logged out and logged in again. Same old same old 🤔

There isn't a completed saved puzzle stored on the site for your user - I have checked the database - so something between your machine(s) and the Puzzlemix server is causing this effect, presumably by caching the result of a request. That should never happen, since the files are marked as instantly expiring, so must be a configuration error somewhere between you and the server. However I have deleted the (reset!) save file that had been saved for you on this puzzle, which may or may not help. In any case, I've never come across this issue before so that's really odd behaviour. It should always be the case that force-reloading a puzzle - or using a different device - will trigger a fresh fetch for dynamic content.

You could also try opening the puzzle via a deliberately modified URL to hopefully bypass any caching. For example, here:

I clicked on this and was presented with the same completed puzzle unable to be reset
By the way none of this is a problem for me!! I'm not trying to replay the puzzle, just reporting strange events 🤪

Another strange one: my list of games is now showing this one in green .When I click on it, up comes the completed puzzle again and, yes it can't be reset.
None of this is a complaint. I'm merely bemused 🤣

I've looked into this further, and I hope you won't take offence if I'm incorrect but I am now just about certain that you are confused. All Hitori puzzles open with all the digits fully filled in. I think you are seeing that and believing that the puzzle is already finished - but that's just what they look like.

The icon shows a green play+pause symbol for you because you have opened it but not finished it, without a save file.

I am confident now that everything is, in fact, working exactly as it is supposed to.

Gareth, You're quite right. Of course you are. I am so upset with myself, Talk about 'senior moment'. Sorry.

No problem at all, and I’m glad to get to the bottom of it. I’m sure you’re far from the first person to think this, so I’ll bear that in mind in any future redesign in terms of presenting hitori puzzles!

Thank you, Gareth. I'm sure your design is fine just as it is. I've been playing it very happily for 25 years!!

Key

  • A yellow/light blue highlight in the time distribution charts highlights your time, where relevant.
  • Rating scores out of 10.0 show the average difficulty rating chosen by users, where 1.0 is "Easy" and 10.0 is "Hard".
  • If a puzzle is opened more than once, including by loading from a saved position, then this is potentially a significant aid so it is listed as being completed with 'multiple sessions' for the purpose of the best time/average rating displays above.
  • Minor aid is defined as no more than one use of 'Check solution' when incomplete and/or no more than one use of 'Check solution' when wrong; and/or using highlighting aids (show repeated digits, show broken inequalities and show valid/invalid placements [slitherlink] only). Major aid is any and all other use of the solving aids except for 'show wrong'.
