Ah, this happens when the site runs out of the freeform wraparound ones (that I call 'Wraparound Sudoku'), at which point it will use Toroidal Sudoku (with the fixed layout pattern, but otherwise the same puzzle) until such time as I replenish them. Otherwise it just uses them with a certain much smaller likelihood. So I need to fix this - thanks for flagging, since I hadn't noticed.
