Can this be solved without guessing?

Just as a general answer, all the Futoshiki puzzles on puzzlemix can be solved without guessing. You'll never need any technique more complex than using an 'x-wing', meaning that you look for a digit that can only appear in the same two columns within any pair of rows and then eliminate it as an option from anywhere else in those two rows - or the reverse, with row and column swapped. I use x-wings much more in the Futoshiki puzzles on puzzlemix than the Sudoku puzzles, since sudoku are generally much more heavily constrained with the additional boxes.

That seems like an important technique. Is there an example you can give, or a link from online that illustrates this visually? At my level, I am finding it hard to visualise this. Anyway, thank you so much for the daily puzzles, really adds a lot of fun and brain exercise to my life!

There's a detailed explanation at sudopedia:

Maybe I should add that it sounds complicated but it really isn't. And I'm really glad you're enjoying the puzzles!

Thanks for your comment, Gareth. It might be worth mentioning in the puzzle instructions if a type of puzzle can always be solved without guessing,

Key

  • A yellow/light blue highlight in the time distribution charts highlights your time, where relevant.
  • Rating scores out of 10.0 show the average difficulty rating chosen by users, where 1.0 is "Easy" and 10.0 is "Hard".
  • If a puzzle is opened more than once, including by loading from a saved position, then this is potentially a significant aid so it is listed as being completed with 'multiple sessions' for the purpose of the best time/average rating displays above.
  • Minor aid is defined as no more than one use of 'Check solution' when incomplete and/or no more than one use of 'Check solution' when wrong; and/or using highlighting aids (show repeated digits, show broken inequalities and show valid/invalid placements [slitherlink] only). Major aid is any and all other use of the solving aids except for 'show wrong'.
